A systematic review and meta-analysis carried out by lab member Dr. Liat Levita and collaborators Sean Walsh and Prof. Markus Reuber has recently been published online in Seizure.

The systematic review aimed to contrast levels, manifestations and associations of depression in patients with psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) and those with epilepsy.

Overall, patients with PNES reported higher levels of depression, and more likely to report physical symptoms of depression than those with epilepsy. Larger differences were reported in studies based on self-reported symptoms than on clinical diagnoses.
